We hope you can join us for this event at the Historical Society on Sunday, September 15th at 3:00 pm. This compelling documentary was produced in 2009 and won three Midwest Emmy’s for Best Documentary, Best Writing, and Best Musical Score. The documentary was aired frequently on WTTW and other PBS stations nationwide, and received excellent reviews:
“A magnificent piece of work. Fascinating, compelling, touching, heartbreaking…all that and more.”
– Robert Feder, Chicago Sun Times
“Emotionally powerful, a great story about the U.S. Navy and historically accurate.”
-Samuel J. Cox, RADM USN (Ret)
“Very personal and moving tale…sheds light on the Midwestern war effort.”
-Maureen Ryan, Chicago Tribune.
Appearing in the video are La Grange residents, Nancy Kenney, John Kenney Jr., and Beth Augustine. Former La Grange resident Bill Mabin perished aboard the Lagarto and his daughter, Nancy Kenney will provide insight into her father’s story and how the experience impacted their family.
At the event proceeds from the sale of author Nancy Kenney’s book “The Lost Submarine” will be donated to the Historical Society. This event is free, but please register here so we can provide enough seating.
