Village of La Grange Historic District

Historic House 2

The La Grange Historic District was listed on the National Register of Historic Places on August 8, 1979. The National Register is the official list of the Nation's historic places worthy of preservation.

The District is comprised of approximately 1000 buildings, mostly single family homes, that represent a period of architectural development of high artistic value dating from the late 19th century to the early 20th century.

The high quality of architecture, the historic significance of these buildings to the community and the region, and the degree to which they have been preserved, merited inclusion on the National Register.

The District is a geographically definable area possessing a significant concentration of buildings united by past events or aesthetically by plan or physical development that defines the historical character of a district. In La Grange, one can look back to the turn of the Twentieth Century and see how a community looked and lived.
